Birmingham, Al (WIAT) Two local shopping centers are falling victim to the weak economy. Both face foreclosure.
Vestavia City Center and Patton Creek are both facing foreclosure. Both are AIG Baker properties--who say they're doing everything they can to fight foreclosure.
Karen Bright and her son, can remember when vestavia city center was full of shops and restaurants. But that's not the case today.
"They seem to be dropping like flies, we used to walk here from our house and eat dinner go to a movie, we would ride our bikes here sometimes," Bright says.
While the city center has a prime location on some customers think structure is to blame.
"I think it's the layout, a lot of the big draw is going to be on the outside the pharmacy and the movie theater, not a whole lot of foot traffic in the middle."
Now, the center and Hoover's Patton Creek are facing foreclosure. AIG Baker currently owns both properties. Nick Whitehead says they want the best for their tenants and are hoping against the foreclosure odds.
"We are working very aggressively to avoid foreclosure of these properties and believe we will do so," Whitehead says.
Meanwhile, here at Patton Creek there aren't as many empty store fronts, Whitehead says a decision could be made on this shopping center within the next couple of days.
"Patton Creek we believe we've had negotiations and believe we'll have something to announce within the next couple days."
so, the restructuring may be good for the two malls, until then it's business as usual for places like N'Vouge Salon.
"Regardless of the property owner, we're still going to take care of the business on our own we always have and come what may, we're looking forward to changing and succeeding."
The salon along with other businesses in both locations are looking ahead to better days.
